Englands Best Hotel Spa | AKASHA Spa at Cafe Royal

As a Luxury Blogger in London, I am always seeking out the 'next big thing' in one of the most desired cities in the world, London. There's a reason London is classed as one of the greatest cities in world to live in, and why so many people flock here.

One of my favourite things to do in London is work, dine and relax in hotel spas. London is bursting full of historical luxury hotels offering incredible facilities, but tucked away under Piccadilly Circus, one of the busiest areas in London, is Cafe Royals Akasha Wellness Club.

First Impressions

When I saw the entrance to the spa through the bustling crowds, I saw a small sign that said 'AKASHA' right in the middle of Piccadilly Circus next to the tube stop, my first impression, honestly? Was 'oh god no' for a split second I could imagine me relaxing in my treatment with interruptions of black cabs beeping outside, this was not the case. As soon as I entered the building you are lead down a spiral staircase, the noise of London gradually got more faint as we went further downstairs until the noise was completely gone, it was surreal.

The Spa

Now, there's a reason this spa was voted 'Englands Best Hotel Spa' we entered into a maze of heavy stoned corridors and rooms lined with candles in crystal candle holders, it felt like we had just discovered a secret tomb in London. The first thing I noticed was the incredible smell of Aromatherapy oils oozing from the spa, there was a beautiful arrangement of Aromatherapy Associate products next to the front desk which I was able browse. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating so we felt right at home. We actually used the spa gym, which was one of the best hotel gyms I've ever used, being an avid gym user I am picky about where I go. Once we finished up at the gym we headed to the sit-down area to order lunch.

The Lunch Menu

Lunch takes around 20 minutes to arrive so we ordered and went to relax by the pool, I honestly wasn't expecting much as I have had lots of spa 'lunches' and they were nothing to write home about, but my god, the food was incredible to say the least. We were collected from the pool by the lady at the front desk who brought us over the most beautifully laid out 'spa lunch' I've ever seen! See photo above. I had a tuna poke to start, and a tiger prawn salad for main with a cold-pressed juice by 'PRESS'. Everything was extremely tasty and really felt like we were eating in a restaurant. My friend ordered the vegetables and houmus which I had a taste of and that too was incredible-overall the food was 10/10.

The Aromatherapy Associates Treatment

This is the part I was most looking forward too, as I had heard down the grapevine that the spa had just launched the new Aromatherapy Associates treatment menu which was a mix of holistic mindfulness and massage techniques. I've always used Aromatherapy Associates ever since I discovered them in Space NK, the brand has been around for over 30 years so they really know what they are talking about. Whenever I have a bath I fill up the tub with a few droplets of the 'de-stress'  bath oil which fills my house with the most incredible smell, my parents always say the house smells like a spa after I've used it (haha). I was lead into another section of the spa, again the spa continued to amaze me with its private areas to relax in and incredibly soothing music they played throughout the spa. My treatment was for stress, as I have had a stressful time recently and was desperately in need of some 'down time'.

The 'de-stress' treatment consists of back, neck, face and scalp massages, however, as my hair is prone to falling out due to stress I swapped out the scalp massage for a well-needed foot massage, the therapist was very accommodating and let me do this. Just before I went in my friend told me her sister had had a treatment there before and it was the 'best massage she ever had' so I went in with high expectations.

With this being said, the treatment was unbelievable, I have never had a massage like this, the techniques the therapist used were out of this world. The therapist started by letting me smell some essential oils by Aromatherapy Associates before proceeding to work on my body. The smells throughout the whole massage were incredibly soothing and relaxing, this was the first treatment I've had using Aromatherapy Associates and it definitely won't be the last, it was like the brand was made for spa treatments! I left feeling relaxed, rejuvenated and balanced which is exactly what the treatment aims to do.

At the end of the treatment, there were a few minutes allowed for some mindfulness, I really loved this part, it was only a small part of the treatment but it made a huge difference when the treatment came to an end. I sometimes feel after a treatment ends, you're supposed to wake up and rush out the room for the next customer to go in but with this treatment, the therapist was very patient and used a soft voice to talk me back into the room, she then recommended to wake up every day and say something positive about myself as piece of advice to walk away with.

I've never left a treatment feeling so positive about life and will 100% returning, I loved every second. I'm already thinking of getting my mum a spa package for Christmas!
