For the last two years I have been using the Olympus Pen 7 to take all of my blog pictures. As the blogging industry continues to grow at a rapid pace, the competition for a high-quality blog/Instagram & YouTube is at its peak. I quickly outgrew the Olympus Pen 7 so I decided to try out the Nikon D7500.

Back in the day the Olympus Pen was 'the blogging camera' with its built-in WIFI, it made it easier to connect my phone to the camera without the use of a laptop resulting in efficient transferral of images. Nowadays most cameras have a built-in wifi feature, so I decided to try out a more professional DSLR.

Below are some of the main features the D7500 has to offer however keep reading for my personal opinion on the camera and what I specifically use it for when I blog.

Nikon D7500 Features:

  • 20.9MP APS-C CMOS Sensor
  • 51-point phase detect AF
  • 8 fps burst for 100+ JPEGS or 50 Raws
  • 180k-pixel RGB sensor for metering and subject recognition
  • 3.2" tilting touchscreen LCD
  • Deeper grip
  • Weather-sealing
  • 4K (UHD) video from 1.5x crop of sensor
  • In-camera batch Raw processing
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

My two main priorities when getting a camera are the use of video and how good the quality is when taking photos. I recently purchased a drone so the urge to have a camera that has 4k on it was a must. Luckily the Nikon D7500 has the 4k video option on it.

Is It Good For Filming YouTube Videos?

I've started filming my YouTube videos with this camera and I've noticed a considerable difference to the quality. I actually filmed the below vlog with the D7500, check it out. Up until now I've used the Olympus to film my YouTube videos, and I am in no way bashing the Olympus but I no longer think it's the best camera out there for bloggers (and I used to think that!) there are a lot more options out there you can get without being a professional photographer and they are easy to use. I think the only thing I would change about this camera would be if the view finder flipped out so you could see yourself while vlogging or taking an image of yourself.

What Is It like To Take Images With?

The camera overall is fantastic and so far I have not found any challenges with it (other than the slight amend with the view finder). I really feel like I've upped my game with this camera, it's also super easy to use so for a blogger like myself it's ideal. The ISO,  F-stop and Aperture are quick to change, unlike my other camera. The camera also has a flip-out viewfinder which flips out for easy use but as I mentioned earlier it doesn't flip out all the way. The view finder is also touch screen which is great. I think my favourite thing about the camera is that Nikon have made is super easy to use without even looking at the manual so if you wanted to you could pick the camera up and just figure it out (if you have basic knowledge on how to use a camera that is!).
