Living The Swiss Dream | Hotel Schweizerhof Bern
After my trip to Lausanne this month me and my friend Emily from @londonblogger_ headed to Bern just an hour south of Lausanne, Bern is the capital of Switzerland. Bern reminded me of Bath, with it's breathtaking buildings and stunning scenery, it was such a romantic city, we found out it actually dates back to the 12th century which is amazing, I love when a city holds a lot of history.
We stayed at the Hotel Schweizerhof Bern, right in the heart of Bern opposite the station which was handy. The hotel was absolutely stunning, my favourite part about the hotel were actually the staff, every person we came into contact with made us feel right at home and was so helpful with any questions we had.
Our room was large and spacious and had a small balcony looking over the city (see pic below) it was truly stunning. My favourite part about the room was definitely the marble bathroom - we all know how obsessed I am with marble. The shower was kitted out with Bulgari toiletries, as I travel blogger I love to collect miniature beauty products from the hotels I stay in as I they always come in use!
The hotel provided us with some incredible facilities, but the one that caught our attention the most was the spa, in the basement- so once again off we went in our robes (can you tell we love a spa or what). We arrived to a small but tranquil haven which we stayed in for an hour or so before heading to dinner. The spa was equipped with a sauna, steam room, plunge pool, showers, relaxation room, treatment rooms and a wonderful ginormous hot tub (check out the first photo in this post!). The spa was 10/10 from me, I also really liked the lighting throughout, which is a weird thing to noticed (I know) but I can be quiet light sensative and in a spa I like have mood lights to help me relax, which this spa did so I was a happy pup.
After the spa we headed to the hotel restaurant 'Jacks Brasserie' for dinner. I was looking forward to ordering some traditional Swiss food so we asked the waiter for some recommendations, we ordered the famous schnitzel which according to our lovely waiter 80% of the people who dine there usually order, so we knew it was going to be really good. We had amazing gin & tonics with with our meal, for starters I had a prawn salad dish, it was one of those meals where you don't know what on earth you're eating but it tasted sensational, you know? For main I had risotto which tasted amazing aswell.
On our last day we spent a few hours exploring the city, the first thing we noticed were the amazing historical buildings, the whole city seem to match, it was so nice to walk through. We asked the hotel concierge for directions, she was so helpful, and recommended lots of good places to go to take photos, being bloggers and all that was our priority! We didn't get a chance to see them but there were apparently some cute bears that lived in one of the gardens at the far end of the city which you could visit.
One of the most interesting things about Hotel Schweizerhof Bern is the focus on sustainability they have. Since 2016 the hotel have their own in house team which meet regularly to ensure the hotel & spa are being as environmentally friendly as possible by making small changes. One of these changes is that they decided to use left over vegetables to make vegetable salt- reducing food waste, how great is that?!
Overall we had a wonderful stay at Hotel Schweizerhof Bern, the capital is stunning and is beautiful regardless of the weather, we were lucky and had sunny weather but I can still imagine the city being lovely in the winter, walking around wrapped up with a hot chocolate in hand. I will definitely be returning to this beautiful hotel & city, I strongly recommend them both!
